About the Course

GEMINI Academy is part of the EU-funded GEMINI project. It shares lessons from European cities piloting new shared mobility services: e-scooters, e-mopeds, mobility credits, and multimodal hubs.

You will learn:

  • How cities reduce private car use

  • How to involve communities and make services inclusive

  • What works (and doesn’t) in pilot implementation

  • How to prepare tenders and build strong partnerships

  • How to check feasibility and scale impact

Course materials include:

Course Modules (5 Weeks)

Module 1 – Welcome to GEMINI Academy (Week 1)

Goal: Understand what GEMINI Academy is and why shared mobility matters.

Topics:

  • What is GEMINI?

  • What is GEMINI Academy?

  • Main objectives of the Academy

  • What to expect from the course

  • Expected outcomes

  • Why shared mobility matters for cities and mobility leaders

Materials & Activities:

  • Welcome video

  • Course overview

  • Activity (Peer-reviewed Assignment 1): Write 2–3 pages about your city’s shared mobility context, goals, and constraints

  • Quiz

Module 2 – Understand Mobility Business Models (Week 2)

Goal: Learn about the mobility landscape before pilots and how to build effective business models.

Topics:

  • Key challenges in pre-GEMINI models (fragmentation, viability, data governance, safety, equity)

  • Systemic issues in shared mobility (infrastructure gaps, regulations, operator churn)

  • What this means for mobility innovation

Materials & Activities:

  • Short lecture on business models used before the GEMINI project

  • Quiz 1

Module 3 – Insights from Cities & Operators: Part 1 (Week 3)

Goal: Learn directly from GEMINI city teams and operators, and apply early lessons.

Topics & Activities:

  • Podcast interviews (15–20 min each) with city teams & operators (Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Munich, Turin, etc.)

  • Webinar 1 (recorded): Early lessons from MLL interviews

  • Webinar 2 (recorded): Deep dive into MLL insights
  • Case Feature: Prague 6 Feasibility Study (video + report)

  • Release of first case studies & practical guides

Focus Areas:

  • Early pilot wins and challenges

  • Prague 6 feasibility study

Module 4 – Tendering, Regulation & User acceptance (Week 4)

Goal: Go deeper into procurement and governance: how to prepare tenders, set rules, and build strong partnerships.

Topics & Activities:

  • Webinar 3 (recorded): Tendering, user acceptance, and regulation

  • More case studies & guides

Focus Areas:

  • Tender preparation & evaluation criteria (service levels, safety, inclusion)

  • Partnership models and risk-sharing

  • Regulation and curb management

  • Feasibility, piloting logistics, and operations

Materials:

Activity:

Module 5  Final Summary & Action Plan (Week 5)

Goal: Summarize lessons and create a practical plan for scaling shared mobility.

Topics:

  • Lessons learned across MLLs

  • Feasibility assessment & go/no-go criteria

Live Session:

  • Final Webinar 4: Summary of lessons & key insights

Materials:

  • Engagement Report: Learnings from cities that joined later in the project

  • Downloadable course summary

Final Assignment:
At the end of the course, create a short plan for a shared mobility project in your city.

Include:

  1. Problem & goals -What do you want to achieve?

  2. How it works – Who is involved and how will it run?

  3. Service rules -How will you measure success and keep it safe?

  4. Community – How will people be involved and included?

  5. Feasibility & risks – Is it realistic? What could go wrong?

  6. Next steps – How could it grow in the future?

Format: 6-8 pages or 10-12 slides.
Think of it as a starter plan using what you learned from the course.

This chapter introduces the GEMINI project and the GEMINI Academy, which helps cities and operators learn how to design, launch, and scale sustainable shared mobility solutions through practical tools, case studies, and knowledge sharing.

Modul 2: Understand Mobility Business Models
This chapter reviews the shared mobility business models used by GEMINI cities before the project started, based on surveys and reports from Mobility Living Labs.

Modul 3: Insights from Cities and Operators
This chapter highlights the practical experiences of cities and operators piloting shared mobility solutions within the GEMINI project. Through interviews, webinars, and real-world examples, we explore how these pilots were designed, tested, and adapted - and what others can learn from them.
